Welcome to the Australian Lancia Register
Incorporated
The Australian Lancia Register is dedicated to tracking
and helping to ensure the preservation of one of the most
important automobile marques of all time, Lancia. Ever since
Vincenzo Lancia founded the company, Lancia have been famous
for producing innovative automobiles that have expanded the
boundaries of motoring.
Members of the Australian Lancia Register
receive the
Register's newsletter, and are encouraged to participate in
the Register's biennial rally at Castlemaine, Victoria.
Other resources you can find at the site are a list of
contacts of individual register members whom can be
contacted via email with queries, a listing of Lancia
oriented links, and a listing of suppliers of Lancia parts
in Australia whom have a presence on the web.
The membership
form is available for download here.
Christmas Run 2011
Graeme and Lynne Simpson put their
hands up to organise this years Christmas Run this year... We wonder
if they’ll be so silly a second time?
A heap of Lancia’s and a few ring in’s took part...the weather
improved to a point where a few were caught out in the sun without
Sunscreen and Hats at lunch.
A special mention to guests from the “Cool Country Classic Club” and
also Clare and Arthur Williams from the Jag club who came along to
celebrate Christmas in their very nicely done Mk 2 Jag.
Morning Tea at the Café atop Mount Macedon was followed by a
BBQ/Picnic lunch at the Estate of Robert and Penny Bienvenue at
Trentham East.
The cars were tested on some beautiful roads, some not used before
by any of us..
Apart from one road sign missing and one recalcitrant Flaminia GT on
it’s homeward bound trip no mishaps to report.
Rob B converted the old church himself and clearly exercised some of
his best design to achieve the end result. A most impressive
conversion.
With some interest we noted the availability of the converted church
for weekend bookings... A few holidays may well be in the planning.
All the best for Christmas

Vale Don Wright
The Register was saddened to hear of
the passing of Don Wright on Thursday last week. An
appropriate tribute will appear shortly.
Castlemaine 21
Castlemaine done for another 2
years!
Well, nothing but smiles all round this rally with the weather on
our side and a well organised event to boot!
Friday lunch at Vellacott’s saw old friends catching up and chatting
about all manner of things (Cars mostly) and some new faces present
as well.
Friday dinner was a real success, probably the best so far with
finger food, a few bevvies and a smart venue. It was over too
quickly.
Saturday’s train ride and BBQ lunch made it a family friendly
affair, I counted 14 kids! Russell Cayley and his partner Gayle Hill
did a fantastic job and judging by the sell-out of most items at the
Auto Jumble, this rally’s paraphernalia was popular as well.
The quality of the food at Rally dinner on Saturday night was noted
and everyone seemed to be relaxed and happy.
The Sunday display at Beaufort went very nicely, a new venue and a
good one too. Many additional cars attended: The Monteleone brothers
in Tony’s very nice 3rd Series Beta Coupe and of course Charlie of
Italian Job fame in his extraordinary Evolution Integrale just to
name a couple.
As this is being penned, the tourists are on the Final stages of the
SA “extended tour”, news has filtered through that Alan and Shellagh
Hornsby’s efforts have not been wasted and that everyone on the tour
has had a ball.
See the following link supplied by Rob Alsop (Fulvia Zagato) of the
display at Beaufort at lunch on Sunday.

Australian Lancia Register History
The Australian Lancia Register was formed without any formalities in 1970, in preparation for
celebrations of the Lambda's 50th Birthday. The Lambda is particularly
significant in the Australian Lancia scene with some 450 being sold new
in the country, of which well over 100 survive today.
The Register's major event is the biennial Castlemaine Rally, held in
October of the odd years. This event attracts well over 100 Lancia's
with most models from the Kappa through to the Thema being represented.
In addition to running the Castlemaine rallies, the Register publishes
a Newsletter five or six times a year. We do not hold monthly meetings
because our membership of about 250 is scattered across a country about
the size of central Europe. Instead, members keep in touch through
informal local networks, state clubs in Queensland and New South Wales,
or with distant members with similar models. We also have some 30
overseas members.
Despite the large number of Lambda's sold in Australia, sales of
subsequent models were relatively small, but thanks to a dry climate
and a national tendency to keep cars running for a long time. we still
have a good representation of models up to and including the Beta
range.
Sales of new Lancia's ceased in 1984, but a few of the more exciting
models, such as the Delta Integrales, continue to be imported
privately. One complication is that it is not possible to register
(license) left hand drive cars in the main states.
The Register was incorporated in 2003, but continues as it started, as a small, informal group of
people brought and held together by a common admiration for the
products of the Lancia factory. We salute the initiative of Brin
Edwards in forming the Association of Lancia Clubs and see it playing a
valuable role in facilitating co-operation and friendship among Lancia
enthusiasts right around the world.
